Converse

The story began when Marquis Mills Converse opened the Converse Rubber Shoe Company in 1908. It has been a subsidiary of Nike, Inc. since 2003. They provide rubber soled footwear for women, men and children.

The most iconic footwear in sports history is the Converse All Star. Also known as the Chuck Taylor All Star, it is an elite basketball shoe. The original canvas and rubber construction still remains to this day. The All Star was designed to fill a gap in the shoe market caused by the ever-increasing popularity of basketball. It was the first mass-produced Converse basketball shoe in North America.

Converse dominated the American shoe market for over a half-century. But from the 1970’s, they lost their dominant position due to other sports companies producing their own styles. Converse shoes are distinguished by the company’s insignia, smooth rounded toe, rubber sole and wrap-around strip.
